Stranger than Guest?
This insightful comment came from Gazette writer and receptionist Christpher Short:
Our last two mail DVDs were Stranger Than Fiction and For Your Consideration. Yes, a Will Ferrell vehicle and a Christopher Guest movie.
Why was the former about twenty times more entertaining? Why, why, why?

It was??!
I loved "Stranger Than Fiction." Then again, I'm a writer, so...
But my wife also really enjoyed it and she isn't.
Haven't seen the Guest film "For Your Consideration" yet, so can't compare.
Probably won't though since it really doesn't look like me cup 'o joe.
I'm on the other side of eli the mad man in that I haven't seen "Stranger than Fiction" yet, but am looking forward to doing so.
"For Your Consideration" was, for me, a pretty big disappointment. Simply put, not funny or insightful enough. The ending, in particular, is completely off the mark in terms of what would happen to people who starred in an Oscar-winning Indie film (doesn't matter if they personally didn't win the Oscar). Unlike previous Guest films, it just didn't ring true enough.
As for "Fiction", I'll be happy if its better than most of Ferrells films, which aside from "Elf", I usually find quite tiresome and also, simply not funny (especially "Talledega Nights").
